01The Problem

One questionnaire,two teams pulled in

Advancing sustainability has become a key priority for companies worldwide. Customers increasingly ask their suppliers to disclose ESG information, and the questionnaires keep coming.

Each one has dozens of questions — in Chinese, English, or even Korean. The answers already exist, scattered across sustainability reports, policies, and past responses. But Sales doesn't know where to look. So the ESG specialist is pulled in again, answering question by question. Then the next questionnaire arrives, and it all happens again.

The real cost isn't just time

Sustainability teams should be driving the work that truly moves a company forward:

  • Energy & carbon reduction
  • Greenhouse gas inventories
  • Sustainable supply chains
  • Sustainability reporting

Instead, their time keeps getting fragmented by questionnaires.

I wanted to give that time back to them.
02The Approach

Why I plannedit this way

In the age of AI, there are more tools than ever, and they're easier than ever to access. But tools alone don't solve problems. I often ask myself: with so many tools available, how can I actually help people?

Understand the problem first, choose the right tool, then make it safe to rely on.

ESG questionnaires are formal disclosures to customers. One wrong number, or one overstated claim, can expose a company to compliance and reputational risk. So from the start, I decided: AI can help, but people stay in control.

AI can be confidently wrong

People make the final call

AI only drafts; every answer is confirmed by a specialist before delivery

An answer without evidence is a risk

Answer only with evidence

When reliable data can't be found, flag it for a person instead of letting AI guess

When something goes wrong, you need to trace why

Every answer is traceable

Which source was used, who reviewed it, and when

Sales and specialists care about different things

Clear roles

Sales focuses on customers and progress; specialists on review and judgment

03The Solution

Let people handlewhat needs judgment

Let AI handle what's backed by data. Let people handle what needs judgment —so sustainability teams can get back to driving sustainability.

Answers are first drawn from the company's existing sustainability data, with sources cited. Only questions lacking clear evidence, or needing expert judgment, go to the ESG specialist. Sales can submit questionnaires and track progress on their own.

Care in the details

  • Numbers are cited, never generated

Figures like emissions or energy use come only from existing company data — AI never estimates them.

  • If it's uncertain, say so

Questions without enough evidence are clearly flagged, not glossed over.

  • Answers follow the questionnaire's language

Chinese questionnaires get Chinese answers, English get English. More languages are planned.

  • If AI stops, work doesn't

Even when AI is paused, the team can complete the process manually.

Every review makes the next one better

Delivery isn't the finish line. Every answer a specialist adds or corrects points to a gap in the knowledge base. The system brings these together, and once a specialist confirms them, they go back into the knowledge base — so the next questionnaire with a similar question can be answered with evidence. The more it's used, the less needs a person.

04The Philosophy

Digital transformation doesn't need grand projects or lofty slogans.Real change comes from getting each process right and making it run smoothly —step by step, solving each team's problems properly.Just as sustainability isn't a one-off project, neither is digital transformation — it's a cycle of continuous improvement. No big promises. Just results we deliver.
